Danielle Nielsen – the person

Hi. I’m Danielle.

I’m the oldest of three girls. My parents still live in the house I grew up in. Watching my kids play there brings me incredible joy.

I am a wife. I married my best friend when I was 20 years old. We’ve had our ups and downs, like most couples, but we are always looking for ways to keep our connection to each other strong.

I am a mother. We came about parenthood a little differently, adopting out two boys after doing foster care. You can read about that journey here. It’s been a long journey with some incredible moments.

I love instagram. I love lens flare, in moderation, and excess at times. I love self portraits even though I think my nose is too big for my face.

I’ve got a good sense of humor. I’m pretty sure I got it from my dad.

I love coffee. I love water with lemon. I don’t like wine. Unless it’s a sweeter white wine. I don’t drink beer but have a growing collection of brewery shirts/sweatshirts.

I love road trips. I love driving through the mountains. I also love to fly, which is great since most of my family lives in Michigan.

I get claustrophobic in the city after a while. Getting out into the foothills of the Cascades I feel like I can breathe. The same thing goes for the Olympics, I just get across the Sound less often.

I love a good book. Let me know if you’ve got any suggestions. :)

I have a slight Pinterest addiction. “Slight” is probably the wrong word for it. My sister-in-law and I have entire texting conversations consisting of only pinterest pins. It’s amusing.

In Michigan, spring was my favorite season – the rebirth from a long harsh winter. Here in Seattle       self-portrait-1flowers seem to bloom year round. Yet the neighborhoods and mountains sing in the fall and nothing is better than summer in Seattle.

I spend most of my time volunteering. I volunteer in the boy’s classrooms, and with the Art Program at their school. I also volunteer my time in a bible education work. Both of these add so much fulfillment. I couldn’t imagine life without both activities.

That’s me in a nutshell. I’m pretty much an open book, or an open blog post. Feel free to ask if you’ve got any curiosities. :)
